Hello everyone, happy new year!
With recent release of Cayo Perico but not much else I wanted to touch base with the community holding out for GTA Online in Liberty City or Vice City, and debrief from the Cayo Perico DLC.
Even though Cayo Perico came out unexpectedly (to us), it is a small but welcome addition to the GTA Online world.
I believe that we still have reason to cling onto hope that that Liberty City will sooner rather than later, and Cayo Perico is a stepping stone to that demonstrating the map expansions are possible.
While I no longer think that we will see a remastered city come this generation of console, but we still have GTA V "Expanded and Enhanced" coming in 2021 which may have much more than just GTA V itself.

Reasons why I think that GTA V "Expanded and Enhanced" is more than just GTA V with updated graphics

1. GTA V XB1 & PS4 versions already work fine in XBSX/XBSS/PS5. It looks and runs great, similar to a PC level of detail/performance. Why would a significant update be needed if it will be much the same if they didn't have big plans on top of that?
2. Cayo Perico proves that Rockstar's idea of "Expanded" can mean land expansion
3. Cayo Perico sounds like it was more a like a side project during COVID-19 WFH than something in the works for a long time. It is not unreasonable to think that Rockstar, with all their global studios now merged together, haven't been working on something big since the bulk of RDR2 was finished.

1. Why are they being so vague about the details, even to go as far as using a PS3 trailer for it... are they doing this because they are hiding something? Even being so far to be anticlimactic to take off the pressure from fans, and surprise us later.

What Cyberpunk 2077 has taught the overall gaming community lately is what happens when you overpromise and underdeliver. However Rockstar already learnt this lesson back in 2015 when they promised Heists in GTA Online, which kept being reworked and delayed until near the end of the PS3/360 generation and copped a lot of criticism for it.
Basically every social media comment was "Where are the Heists", fans were frustrated. From that time onwards they never released details until about 2 weeks out from launch for a DLC. RDR2 was a bit longer, but only because they had other partners to consider. For this they originally gave it 1 year from announcement to release date, but it was delayed to 2 years, with PC one more year after that (which also wasn't even announced until one month before that).
Here is a quote about what went wrong with Heists:

We aren’t ready to give an official release date yet, but we are confident they will be ready early in 2015. As you may have read on IGN, Heists were a much bigger challenge to create than we had originally anticipated. Early versions were simply not good enough and had to be scrapped more than once as we honed in on how we thought they should work. We’re happy to say that the pack we are now finalizing is something we are excited by and eager to release as soon as it is ready. We, as a company, have always been about trying to make something that is good rather than hitting a date. We apologize when this gets frustrating but firmly believe that rushing out second-rate content does not do anyone any favors. Hopefully you agree that yesterday’s new Trailer is a sign that Heists are shaping up nicely, but we still need some time to fine tune them. Because we need a little time to get Heists right, we are going to give you a small Christmas gift to keep you entertained until we are done with them.

Reasons why I think something related to Liberty City is most likely to be the next major GTA Online expansion to come

1. GTA IV & EFLC is highly regarded as a masterpiece, it's fanbase is still strong - many still prefer it to GTA V for a variety reasons, so it is a good candidate for a remaster. They can always make the GTA IV car physics, ragdoll, etc. come back again, perhaps as a user configurable option. Having the map there is the gateway to bringing these highly valued games back to a new generation.

1. The availability of GTA IV is terrible. It is only a Backwards Compatibility title on Xbox One (non Enhanced), runs like rubbish on PC - performance wise (and multiplayer is now removed), and the PS4 & PS5 doesn't have it at all. Most other GTAs are available for purchase, at least on Mobile.
   
2. GTA V is now 7 years old and the GTA fanbase is now bigger than ever thanks to GTA V & Online. A lot of new fans haven't had the opportunity to experience GTA IV because of the above availability issue. The new fans are desperate for a new (to them) GTA game, especially since it doesn't look like GTA6 is coming any time soon. Or maybe I'm wrong and 6 is coming soon as well?
   
3. GTA Online is progressively getting new content referencing to Liberty City or content ported from Liberty City (i.e The Tugboat, QUB3D), so they are not above re-using GTA IV assets or dropping hints.
   
4. It is clear that they have been taking the "lazy" route as far as making new content for GTA Online DLCs by re-using existing assets. Don't get me wrong there is still a lot of work involved, but still it is less work than starting from scratch.
   

But it would make sense that they will continue their more recent M.O. to re-use existing assets rather than start from scratch to save time, effort and cost.

• Porting the Liberty City map to GTA V engine can't be that difficult, given that even PC Modders have already been able to do it unofficially (FiveM/OpenIV), so just imagine what Rockstar can do when doing it properly.
• There were only about 10 multiplayer modes in GTA IV Multiplayer, it wouldn't be hard to bring those back to GTA Online game modes to recreate that missing experience.

1. With high profile departures of the writers such as Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser & Lazlow there is no doubt going to be a brain drain. I'm sure they were working on stuff before their departures, and I'm sure that RockstaTake-Two with all their billions of dollars will be able to find other top talent to bring GTA into a new era, but this will take time, and they can get things out in the meantime. The story of GTA IV, Map & other assets are already made, so this gives them a head start to put out games while they rediscover their Mojo to make GTA6 using new talent.
2. GTA Online is a Big Money Maker, it will make the GTA IV & ELFC remaster worth it because the remastered map will be used for both GTA IV & Online: LC (maybe slight map differences according to time period).
3. Why did they put so much effort into issuing cease and desists to OpenIV team for OpenIV's LCinV project (even though it used original game files, no piracy) if they weren't planning on doing something in this space themselves.
4. Cayo Perico aside (which is still quite small), Los Santos as the primary setting of GTA Online is still a bit stale after 7 years. They can't use 2013 Los Santos forever, surely. Not to mention that a new GTA release is already well overdue.

GTA IV Music Licensing speculation/hints

A little while back, a lot of music track licenses expired and they were pulled from the PC version, most notably Vladivostok FM was most affected with most songs removed.
They put in some new tracks to replace it, which wasn't quite as good but it seemed like that was as good as it's going to get.
But then they went ahead and relicensed the original tracks anyway so all the music is now restored again (about 16 months after being originally cut).
Why go though all that expense of relicensing all that music if they aren't planning to capitalise on it in a big way?

Cayo Perico speculation/hints

Not much here directly, but I have played with it a little bit.
The way that it's programmed is interesting. As far as I can tell, travel to the island is sharing a session with Free Mode rather than being a different game mode, which you can tell by seeing the player list stay the same as whoever is in the Freemode session you were in. There is no loading of a different game mode, it is just a cut scene. On PC you can even chat to people who are still in Los Santos.
When you look at the map, you are located South-East of LS (just past USS Luxington), and if you move the mouse you can get locations of LS show up, it's just the map itself which is hidden.
There is a glitch you can do to "free roam" the whole Island, or just go to the Beach Party standalone, it is clear that you are in Free Mode of an existing Los Santos based lobby.
When I was glitched, I was able to take a Dinghy back to LS, LS was visible. about halfway there, the whole Cayo Perico just de-spawned similar to how the USS Luxington does, and also the weathenight cycle changed instantly too.
When I was glitched but still on the Island, a whole bunch of functions were disabled like spawning cars, calling contacts, etc.
What this shows me is that perhaps they are experimenting with how integration with Future GTA Maps will look like.
Instead of loading a whole different game, or loading a different game mode, it could be one big Free Mode made up of all locations, the locations can not be directly accessed without triggering a cut scene, and the properties of how a Free Mode works can change depending on what location on the broader map you are in.
One challenge I anticipate is that they wouldn't want GTA$ earned in LS to be transferred to a totally new GTA Online area. It is well known that a lot of it glitched and they'd want us to start getting rich again. They have also been experimented with holding separate currencies such as Arena Points or Casino Chips. I could imagine that they come up with a storyline where all your GTA$ Cash gets deposited into Maze Bank but then can't be withdrawn to cash or moved to another bank, and in LC you are forced to use a competing bank like the Bank of Liberty. Basically LS = only get Maze Bank, LC = only get Bank of Liberty.
Cars/Planes etc. Can be not widely transferable (i.e. You MKII or Babushka holding a car has engine failure mid flight and crashes, or maybe you need to go to the Airport marker on food), and maybe some planes (i.e. Luxor) can enter on a visiting basis via. Cutscene of that vehicle but can't be saved at the destination into a personal hangar.

Diamond Casino Guide:
So you decided that you wanna rob a casino, great! The Diamond Casino Heist is one of the best ways to earn money, but you're wondering, how do I get started? Well, you're in luck! This guide is going to teach you the ways to get the best out of the Diamond Casino Heist!
Step 1: Arcade
Alright to get started, you’re going to have to own an arcade. Now, it may seem better to go for the arcades on the top of the map to save yourself some cash, however, this will make all the preps much harder, as most of them take place in LS or Sandy Shores.
The best arcade locations are 8-bit ($2,530,000, located in Vinewood) and Videogeddon ($1,875,000, La Mesa). When buying your arcade, none of the upgrades are necessary, as most of them are cosmetic. You’ll have to complete a quick arcade setup mission to access the basement where the diamond casino heist planning board is located.
Step 1.5: Arcade Income
While this isn’t related to the diamond casino heist, I thought I would put this in there. The arcade generates income based on how many games you have, going up to 5k per in-game day (48 min). The game doesn't matter, so you can just buy the cheapest one (Monkey’s Paradise, $90,000) and fill up your arcade with it.
Step 2: Scope out casino
After you’ve finished watching Lester scribble a big mess over the whiteboard, you’ll be able to start the casino heist. Normally, you’ll have to pay a setup cost of 25k, but since it’s your first time doing it, it’ll be free. After you’ve confirmed that you want to start the casino heist, you’ll need to finish the scope out mission. For the scope out mission, you’ll need to take a variety of pictures for Lester in order to unlock entrances for the heist. A full guide is linked here but I’ll sum up the most important ones.

• Staff Lobby: This entrance is arguably the best entrance for the Silent and Sneaky approach. It gives you easy access to the control room where you can get the daily vault easily. It is also the best exit for most approaches as not many guards patrol it. The staff lobby should be around the back of the casino and should look like a white door behind some yellow bollards.
• Security Tunnel: By scoping out this entrance, it gives you the ability to enter the casino as a Gruppe Sechs team for the Big Con. This entrance is the best if not one of the best approaches to the casino heist. The disguise will allow you to go straight to the vault undetected and back up, however, you will be detected when going back out of the casino on the casino access floor, so I would suggest getting some exit disguises to make your escape easier. The security tunnel should look like a big metal garage door with a security camera watching over it under the racetrack.
• Sewers: The sewers allow you to burrow down right into the vault access floor giving you easy access as you are right next to the vault mantrap. The sewer exit, however, is only available in the aggressive approach.
• Roof Terrace: At first glance, the roof terrace may seem like a horrible entrance/exit, however as it turns out, the roof terrace is actually a contender for one of the best aggressive exits. By taking the roof terrace, you can shoot down the guards at the racetrack while they're not being able to shoot back and then parachute down.

You’ll only need to do this mission once, and it will be completed for all future casino heists.
Step 3: Vault Contents
The vault contents mission is pretty easy. You’ll be given the rough location of a Duggan security guard, once you find him, you can either hack him, which can take some time but you won’t get the cops on you if you do it right, or you can kill him and grab the phone, which will save you some time but you’ll need to lose the cops before you can enter the casino.
After you’ve entered the casino, you’ll need to bring out the sightseer app on your phone to find a wifi signal. After you’ve located the wifi signal, you’ll need to figure out the vault contents. Beware that you only have a limited time to do this (2 min).
Since it’s probably your first time, I would recommend that you go through every camera to scope out each POI. The target will be cash since it’s your first time, which has a payout of 2.1 mil on normal. The first time will always be cash (payout of $2,115,000 on normal), but if it’s not your first time, the targets can be either cash, artwork (payout of $2,350,000 on normal) or gold (payout of $2,585,000 on normal).
There is a 4th target, which is diamonds (payout of $3,257,100 on normal) however this vault content is only available for special occasions and has been removed from the vault contents.
If you do the heist on hard by doing the same approach after you’ve done another one, the payout will be 10% larger. If you’ve completed all 3 approaches to the heist, you can cancel the heist which can be helpful if you’ve got a bad target. Link to this is here.
Step 4: Selecting your approach
Once you’ve finished the vault contents mission, you’ll be able to select your approach.
There are 3 approaches to the diamond casino heist. Silent and Sneaky, The Big Con and Aggressive.
For beginners, I would recommend alternating between Big Con and Aggressive, because those are the easiest ones. For Big Con, choose the Gruppe Sechs disguise for the easiest entry. Aggressive is good for newer players however it does end up in a lot of money loss. After you’ve got the gist of it, alternate to doing Silent and Sneaky in place of aggressive for a bigger payout.
Step 5: Selecting your support crew
After you’ve selected your approach, you’ll need to select your support crew before you can do any of the prep missions.
Selecting your support crew is very simple. You’ll need a gunman to source guns, a driver to source cars, and a hacker to delay the nerve agent inside the vault.
Selecting your support crew depends on the approach and target in the vault. For Big Con, SnS, any target EXCEPT for art, you’ll want the worst gunman (Karl Abolaji, take his Micro SMG on big con, heavy revolver on aggressive and on SnS the choice is up to you), the worst driver (Karim Denz, take his sentinel classic) and the best hacker available to you, for most people, this will be Paige Harris (unlocked when the Terrorbyte is purchased, gives 3:25 in the vault when undetected and 2:23 detected).
For aggressive, you’ll still want to have the worst driver and best hacker, however, the gunman is up to you since you’ll be using guns a lot. I normally go with Charlie Reed (unlocked when purchasing a hangar), he takes a 7% cut (2% more than Karl) and gives you an assault SMG, however, you can get by with Karl, as every gunman gives you an SMG to go along with another weapon, which is still a perfectly fine weapon.
For Big Con, SnS and the target is Art, if you and your heist partner can both hack very well, you can get by with Yohan Blair (takes a 5% cut and gives you 2:51 in the vault if you are undetected and 2:01 if you are).
Step 5.5: Secret heist crew members
There are 2 hidden heist crew members that can’t be unlocked by purchasing a business like most heist crew members. There 2 are Patrick McReary and Avi Schwartzman. Patrick McReary is a gunman who takes an 8% cut and gives the choice a Combat MG or an Assault Shotgun in aggressive. Avi Schwartzman is a hacker that takes a 10% cut and gives 3:30 undetected in the vault and gives 2:22 if you are detected. To unlock Patrick, he spawns as a random event around the map. He spawns in a police car that you will need to hijack. A guide is linked here. To unlock Avi, you’ll need to destroy 50 signal jammers that are located around the map. A guide is linked here.
Step 6: Prep Missions
Now that you’ve selected your support crew, you’ll be presented with a plethora of prep missions. Some mandatory and some optional. To complete these missions, I suggest that you use a Kuruma, Buzzard, or Oppressor Mk2 to make your life easier. In some prep missions, you will not be able to call Lester, so be prepared. All of the missions can be done solo but it makes it easier if you have a friend with you to help you out.
Now onto the optional prep missions. Optional prep missions, are, as the name suggests, optional. The optional prep you should do depends on the approach. If you own a penthouse and have completed all of the missions, you will gain access to the security intel mission. It’s very easy to complete and you will only need to do it once. A nice trick is that the gauntlet actually spawns when you start the mission, not when the cutscene is triggered, so you can just shoot the driver and take the gauntlet. A guide will be linked below.
Let’s start with Silent and Sneaky. For Silent and Sneaky, the optional prep missions depend on your skill level. If you’re an experienced player, you don’t need to do much, only level 2 security passes. Power drills you can do if you think you have enough time. However, if you are a very new player, I’d recommend that you do patrol routes, Duggan shipments (you only need to destroy 3 to get rid of their bulletproof helmets), level 2 security passes, emp device and infiltration suits and power drills if you think you have enough time. If you do all these, the heist should be a breeze.
Going onto the Big Con, if you’re doing Gruppe Sechs, you don't need to do much. You only need to go through one door if you exit out the staff door, so you can decide if you want to do level 2 security passes or not. Patrol routes do make things easier, however are not necessary. Again, only do power drills if you think you have enough time. Make sure you do exit disguises. Noose and firefighter are exactly the same, so do firefighters since it has an easier mission.
For aggressive, again, patrol routes make it easier but are never necessary. Make sure to do Duggan shipments. You can solo it, but it will be much easier with another person. If you don’t get them all you can just close the game and you’ll be able to do the mission again. Reinforced armor allows you to take more damage, so I would recommend it even if it makes you slower. Be sure to also do boring machine as it allows you to enter through the sewers. Make sure to also do level 2 security passes unless you really like hacking doors.
Step 7: Finding people to play with
Now that you’ve completed all your required prep missions, you need some people to play with. If you don’t have any friends to play with, I recommend checking out HeistTeams or the GTAO Discord LFG Channels to find people to play with. Make sure to have good communication between your teammates otherwise the heist will be in chaos.
Step 8: Completing the heist
Now that you’ve got a solid heist crew waiting to grab all of that sweet loot out of the casino’s vault, you’ll be able to start the heist. If you're doing aggressive, the plan is pretty simple, shoot your way in, grab the loot, then shoot your way out. The easiest entry for aggressive is sewers, and the easiest exit is the eastern roof terrace. If you exit through the staff lobby, you’ll get shot a ton when going over the racetrack, however, if you exit through the roof terrace, you can shoot the guys behind the stones on the racetrack then safely parachute down.
For The Big Con, I’m going to assume you’re doing the Gruppe Sechs approach. By doing the Gruppe Sechs approach, you can pretty much waltz into the vault and back out of it, just be careful that this has some limitations. When going back up the stairwell/elevator to the casino access floor, the guards will have checked the vault and know it’s been robbed, so you disguise ain't gonna work anymore. I strongly suggest getting exit disguises, as they will greatly help your escape. The easiest exit for this is the staff lobby.
For SnS, I’m not really going to go into too much detail here because there’s a full video linked below. What I will talk about is when to use the emp (If you did the prep mission). I recommend emp’ing when you’re at the vault access floor, allowing you to waltz into the mantrap, or when you're coming back up to the casino access floor and are in the mantrap. Be warned that if you decide to get the daily vault when you trigger the emp, the emp’s timer will run out before you can get to your exit, so plan ahead. The easiest entrance for this is the staff lobby and the easiest exit is also the staff lobby.
Tips and tricks to complete the heist

• If you are disguised, do not bump into any of the guards. They will detect you and start shooting.
• In the control room, there is a button that you can press to open the door to the daily vault. One person has to hold the button while the other goes in and grabs the cash. This can be done with any approach.
• Running and jumping is faster than just running normally, use this to your advantage while inside the vault.
• Running in first person is actually faster than 3rd, so use this to your advantage when trying to knock out guards.
• Don’t bother trying to escape the cops by hiding in an alley or something, either take your car into the sewers down by the LS river or take the heli that usually spawns on top of the police station. The sewers will result in you losing less money, however will be much slower. I will link both of these methods below in the useful media section.
• Normally when exiting the casino from the staff lobby without any disguise, you’ll need to knock out a guard to the left of the swat fan to your right, before hugging the race track wall and then dropping down. I have found that sometimes if you run, the guard will hear you and detect you, causing you to get shot at. To prevent this, walk up to him making sure you stay out of his FOV then knock him out.
• You walk much faster in the casino if you are in first person, making the vault contents mission much easier.
• In prep missions, you can change any accessory (glasses, hat, ect.) to lose 1 star which is useful on missions where you can’t call Lester to remove your wanted level.
• On some missions, you can lose the cops by entering your Terrorbyte/MOC/Avenger.
• On some missions, you can lose the cops if you accept Lester’s apartment heist invite. This only works if you have a heist active.
• In the hacking device mission where you have to infiltrate the FIB building, you walk a lot faster if you aim down sights on any gun, however, if you go into any agent’s LOS you will get detected instantly, so be careful when using this trick.
• You can upgrade your getaway vehicles in the arcade by getting in them and pressing the button shown on the prompt that appears on the top left.

Properties
The release of the Diamond Casino Heist DLC introduces a new property: arcades. Arcades are a passive business that allows you to host the diamond casino heist. The maximum daily income of the arcade is $5,000.
They are purchasable from Mmazebankforclosures at 6 different locations. The cheapest is at $1,235,000 (Pixel Pete’s, Paleto Bay) and the most expensive being at $2,530,000 (8-bit, Vinewood Hills).
Customization options on offer are 2 arcade styles, $290,000 - $470,000, 8 mural options, $50,500 - $107,500, 8 floor options, $78,000 - $165,000, 8 neon art styles, $107,500 - $320,000, personal quarters, $150,000, high score screens, $295,000 and a garage $215,000. 2 extra options are available to purchase from the arcade computer, which are the master control terminal, $1,740,000 and the drone station, $1,460,000. A variety of arcade games are also available to purchase, ranging from $90,000 to $420,000.

Next week's podium vehicle: Deathbike (there are only 4 vehicles left, the Deathbike, the Sugoi, the S80RR (since July 2019) and the V-STR, (since December 2019), but the last two are on the list for a long time. Also, it will probably be like that because next week will be an Arena War Week (according to rockstar games that said that next week, the Arena War class that will be played most of the time in the gamemodes gets a 50% discount. Date: The update will be probably be released at the 6th/13th of August because of next week's discounts and the podium list (if there is no vehicle left, the update will be released (they normally update the list if there are still cars left and the S80RR and the V-STR are on the list since ages and they are probably there so you cant predict it 100%). I'm leaking everything I know about Grand Theft Auto VI.
After seeing what Schreier said about the next Grand Theft Auto being early in development and all the garbage MrBossFTW videos, I decided to ask my friend who started to work at Rockstar in San Diego 4 years ago and has been involved in the development of the game since late 2017 to give me some details about it. Everything he said to me about the game just seemed completely unreal, and after being quiet with this info for more than 3 days now, I can't stop myself from just telling this to the rest of the world. If what he told me is true, then this post might get deleted very quick, so try to copy & paste it somewhere or just screenshot it, also there might be a chance that Rockstar will change some things in the game because of it, and that my friend will be very angry at me and will maybe get suspended from work or he's trolling me and this is just another day of fake GTA VI news, but to me it's just too detailed to be fake. I'm also using a throwaway account. So with this out of the way let's start. The game is 70% finished. The first mentions of the game started way back in late 2011, when the Grand Theft Auto V trailer was launched worldwide. The plan was to make it the biggest game ever, something that nobody has ever seen before, with multiple cities, multiple protagonists, open interiors, realistic mechanics you get the point. Basically the ultimate game and they set it for late 2018, however the game was too heavy for the PS4/XONE hardware, and they also realized they wouldn't finish it in time with Red Dead Redemption 2 being developed around the corner. So they decided to split teams (I don't know the studio names so i will be just saying Team A, B etc) - Team A will be developing RDR2, Team B will be finishing GTA V, Team C starting the development on GTA VI and Team D was operating the next Grand Theft Auto game, which was supposed to be not a full blown sequel, but more like a spin-off (Vice City style - with around 50 missions and one protagonist on the V engine) and release it in 2016, set in areas different from what we saw before (very possibly London, they even left a hint of it in GTA V in that skate park graffiti or whatever it was), however this was scrapped in 2014 and replaced with a TBoGT/TLaD style DLC for GTA V, however this was again scrapped in 2015/16 when they realized how much money they make and can make with Online, so they decided to release bigger DLC's with something that has never been really experienced in GTA (here's the whole thing with MK2 Oppressors etc) and all the money that GTA Online made then was used for GTA VI. So when Red Dead Redemption 2 was finished in 2017, they started to fully focus on Grand Theft Auto VI. They even tested the features that they wanted in the next GTA by placing them in GTA V and RDR2 (I'll say them later). Now I will jump into everything that has currently been developed. The game is set in three different decades in three major cities surrounded by minor ones, with one protagonist for each decade. 1980s (I don't know the exact years but I think it will be something around 1983-1985 because of Rockstar's love for De Palma's Scarface) Vice City fully based on Miami, Medellin (wasn't told of R's version) and some areas in Bolivia and Cuba. Then 1990s (1996 exactly) Liberty City fully based on New York City (this time it will be missing that Soviet-era vibe that was present in GTA IV) and Carcer City based on Chicago with Detroit elements, and finally modern day San Andreas (Los Santos, Blaine County, San Fierro, a big desert town that I don't know the name of, and Las Venturas with missions in modern day Liberty City and modern day Vice City). Now, you won't be able to switch between protagonists like in V. The game will feature time jumps like in Red Dead Redemption 2 (this was actually tested there with the switch from 1899 to 1907), when you finish the 1980's campaign you will jump into the 1990's campaign and then when you finish that you will jump in the modern day campaign. Also, the area unlock system will return, the one that has been present in III, IV, SA, you know, the one with areas blocked until you complete a part of the story. You won't be able to access LC and Carcer before you started the 90's campaign and you won't be able to access the San Andreas before you started the modern day campaign. Now to the caflight mechanics and weapons. I presume some of you may know the mechanics and weapons if you read a leak posted by one of the game testers (he tested just two areas - VC and Carcer). The weapons will change their design during the space between the three campaigns, and there will be many, MANY weapons. Three times the size of V. I wasn't told every single one, but weapons like the Glock, a chainsaw and flamethrower will be returning and some new weapons will be added, the only one I know is the MP5. The car mechanics will be very advanced. For example, a fuel system in a car will be present (similiar to the one used in Mafia II Definitive Edition) and every single vehicle will have more or less fuel, if you steal a car from a pedestrian it will have a random amount of fuel, and if you break into one it might not even have any. The handling is completely reworked and was done with Hangar 13 who have done Mafia III's handling which is in my opinion the best vehicle handling in a game currently. That's all I know to this. And to the flight mechanics will feature a simulation mode and a regular mode. Didn't ask for details on this, but probably a FS2020 style flying and the GTA V style flying. Entering the physics and features. The same ragdoll system used in RDR2 optimized to fit the modern world, object destruction is going to be introduced (yes, you will be able to destroy buildings and this will have major consequences in the game's world, some of them will be very hard to destroy, some of them very easy and some of them won't be destructable at all, I'll tell later but you probably know by now) which will be very present in the ghettos of Carcer City. You will be able to put corpses and alive pedestrians in your trunk, and now murders will have effects. Remember the feature used in Online, that when you steal a car a guy messages you "You stole my fucking car, now you will pay!" type of message? Yeah, this was a test for GTA VI feature. When you murder someone, there is a possibility that some pedestrian will try to kill you for retaliation, or do some harm to your operation. Depends on the importance of the person you will kill (don't know how this system works, but possibly if you kill a gang member you will get drive-by'd or if you kill some random guy a friend of his will try to murder you) and the location and time. The wanted system is reworked, with six stars returning and the six star response is the military. Also, the police's reaction will depend on the city you will be in and the crime you will commit. And the same system that was featured in Mafia III or Watch Dogs that the you have to be snitched on for the cops to appear will be introduced. Interactions will return from RDR2 but more advanced, and for the first time ever a reputation system. I don't know about it that much, nor my friend does, but basically something like this - if you will make a name for yourself in the city the cops will recognize you and peds will fear you. Gunshot wounds and stab wounds will have effect on the player's movement and other, like if you get shot multiple times you won't be able to hold a heavy gun due to your injuries, and a bleeding system is present. And the same thing that was in GTA V with bruises being left after you die will be again present, but this time scars will be introduced. You can literally get a Tony Montana style scar on your face if you get slashed across it very heavily. Business missions will be present, for example, you will have to deliver cocaine from Vice to Bolivia by airplane, something that was tested in the second Trevor mission in V, or you have to reclaim a hood from the rival gang like in SA, but more advanced (I'm getting too ahead of myself). That's all I can recall on this topic. Oh, and the casino system in LV will be heavily present, it was tested in the GTA Online update, almost forgot about it. The soundtrack will be the best in the history of gaming, and I'm serious about it. One of the points behind having two decades is the soundtrack. I don't know about all songs that are in the game, but I know that artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Michael Jackson, 2Pac, Hall & Oates, Nas, Nirvana, Metallica, XXXTentacion and Bob Marley are featured. They spent a lot of money to get them in the game. Now, to the cities look and feel. I will keep it short and simple. Everything from 80's Miami will be present in Vice City, if you watched Miami Vice and Scarface you know, modern day VC will look basically the same way modern day Miami does. 90's Liberty will look like 90's New York present in Above the Rim and Juice however with some new features, and the East-West rap beef will be taking place during this time so expect a lot of references to that. The World Trade Center will be featured, however this was a very, very difficult task and R had to pay major bucks to get it. And finally, modern day San Andreas won't also really differ from the real life counterpart, and some new buildings and areas will be added to Los Santos. Online was basically the thing that Schreier leaked. It will be first set in Los Santos and will eventually feature every city. It has been almost made into a full-blown MMO, DLC ideas already there. There will be an option of getting your V Online protagonist to VI, just like when V for next-gens was released. That is all I know on that, because I really don't care about the Online mode and I didn't ask that much. And the final part, the characters and campaign. I'll start with saying who is Jorge Consejo playing, since he already revealed in his CV that he is featured. The answer is a young Martin Madrazo, who will be one of the protagonist's allies. We will also see a young Roman Bellic moving into LC and a young Dwayne Forge before he got locked up who will be one of the protagonist's allies and a very young Playboy X. We will have references to Niko Bellic (he would appear, but Michael Hollick and Rockstar don't really like eachother now), and Michael, Franklin, Trevor and Lamar will make appearances. That's everyone I know that is returning. As for the new characters, there is a lot of them inspired by Scarface and Narcos for the 1980's campaign, Juice and Above the Rim provided a lot of inspiration for the 1996 campaign and I'm pretty sure there will be a character inspired by 2Pac's Bishop. The campaign is like the three eras of GTA. The 80's campaign will be basically about destruction, mayhem, making money and a name for yourself just like in the 2D era games. The 1996 campaign will be like the 3D era one, going from a nobody to one of the biggest criminals in the country and the modern day campaign will be a mix of both, just like the GTA V one. The missions will be 60 each for one campaign, so all added up the game will feature around 180 missions, which is beating GTA: SA's longest campaign in GTA by over 80 missions. I can't even imagine how long the game will take, including random events and the upgraded Strangers & Freaks missions. The protagonists will be heavily inspired by their time periods cultures. We will have a colombian immigrant moving into Vice City with his friend to escape jail in Colombia, a North Holland gangbanger who wants to do something more then living the gang life, but at the same time wants to dominate the city (a mix of both CJ and Franklin) and a man in his late teenage years who wants to get into the criminal life with his friend, after hearing stories and watching movies, you know the type. Also, the protagonists from the two previous campaigns will return in the modern day one, but as older versions of themselves, however there won't be a switch option between them. Oh, and the release date. Currently, the release date is Spring 2021 with a possible delay to Autumn 2021. Sony is currently battling for the game to be a PS5 exclusive for one month and the PC port is set towards Spring/Summer 2022. They want to release the trailer in October 2020, and a week before that they will show the logo which is done for about two years. That's all I know. Now like I said, there is a chance my friend was lying, and all I told you is fake, so take it with a huge grain of salt. However, if it is really true, then just in case I will delete this post in two days, because of legal action. And if I won't do it, then probably someone from Rockstar will take it down.

I spent days getting this to work. I wanted a 1.41 Reloaded/FitGirl GTA V, but with ALL DLCs available for offline and since some mods want the "latest" version (1.48) with all DLCs. Finally, I got it to work.
Previously, I had Fitgirl release, but this one is even better:
1) On Google, search for GTA V Repack "canek77" “18.10.19”. He has a repack of the game with all DLCs including 1.48
There are various torrents around and don’t let the Russian language confuse you. In the latest version, he mentions that all DLC up to 1.48 are included, with the date 18.10.19. (He also has older versions that go only to 1.46, don’t get these). Check the torrents whether it says “1.48” somewhere. Size is about 86GB.
a) Install this version. I unchecked ALL options when the installer asks (it's in Russian), and I also unchecked the 1.44 optional update since this messed things up in my testing. (So make sure there are no checkmarks when you install this). Takes about as long to install as fitgirl.
b) After it installed, go to your new GTA V folder and in steam_api.ini, edit where it says language and change from Russian to english. The game will then be in english. As the game uses the same crack like RLD! and fitgirl, you can keep and use your existing savegames.

Download them both from Mega and copy the update.rpf (size is 806kb) from his 1.48 Update to your GTA V update folder. Why do we do that? Because the original update.rpf from 1.48 (which is included in the Canek77 repack as a backup) won't work. Also, you probably don't need to copy the mpvinewood folder from as we have this already.
Use OpenIV, and apply the 1.48 fix with the package manager
3) Almost done. The game worked already, but for some strange reason it didn't run my ASI files (even if asiloader.log said that they had been loaded).

(If you installed any mods with OpenIV like "World of Variety" in the mods folder and there is now an "update.rpf" in the mods folder, apply this gameconfig.xml to the update.rpf in the mods\update folder. For this, use OpenIV, open mods\update\update.rpf\common\data and edit the gameconfig.xml, using the edit mode of OpenIV and save it back.)
Done.
I tested this with Menyoo, SimpleTrainer, ENT etc...and you can now spawn vehicles from Diamond Casino etc....which means that all the content of the DLCs should be available.
I also tested with other mods, like World of Variety, Lively World etc... but I did not do too much testing yet except spawning some Diamond Casino stuff like vehicles and mods with trainers.

OK I did testing of the repack without "my" fix as I was not 100% sure whether the repack would already have the 1.48 content available, as it says. But without my fix, I couldn't see and spawn 1.48 cars. So you need my fix.

So with the release of the next-gen version of GTAV on the horizon I wanted to throw out a theory I have for upcoming DLC.
We have yet to receive a single-player DLC at this point and nothing has been announced. To compare to the timeline for the release of TLAD and TBOGT, The Lost and Damned was released ten months after GTAIV hit the stores. It has already been a year since GTAV was released and we have yet to get anything.
With this in mind I have a very strong feeling that accompanying the next-gen release there will be a massive DLC included that will include content for both single player and multiplayer.
What content you may ask? Well the CASINO of course! The casino and racing track exist on the city boarders and has always had a "Coming Soon" sign at it's entrance. Other users have also found audio clips of Lester stating that the casino and racing track are now open so the content either exists already or will exist sometime in the near future.
These two locations would add a huge amount of content to the game. Expanding on the single-player storyline with one or two large heists to plan and execute (think Oceans 11) both at the casino and at the racetrack. This could be a multi-layers heist that is large in scale and could take several smaller missions to finish. I think its an obvious direction to add in more heist content that would fit into the existing game in a natural way. Plus, whenever heists are released for multi-player there would almost certainly be a mission involve one or both of the new locations.
Then of course there is the gambling aspect, something that Red Dead Redemption played around with in a DLC and a way to create a whole new level of game content. The 'Liars and Cheats' DLC added a completely new element to online gameplay and was addictive as all hell. I could see that easily working into the GTAO world as well as the single-player content. Playing poker against other players and friends, betting all of your cash on the best race dog, it would be a breath of fresh air online desperately needs. The idea of racing for pink slips is another area of gambling that might be included seeing that audio files explaining that mode of racing has also been uncovered.
This is just scratching the surface of what could happen, but I do strongly feel it will happen along side the next gen release date. New outfits, cars, guns, etc would mostly likely be included as well! The possibilities are kinda endless when you think about it. So what are your thoughts on this idea? Think it might happen in the upcoming months? Apologies for the long post!

So a while back I wrote this guide and alot of people asked why I didn't like this as much as that DLC and so on, so I decided to write this even longer wall of text to deeper explain why I didn't like this DLC as that one.
Armoured Transport As many people said in the comments of my guide was that they would recommend the Transport DLC. But when you look at what the DLC itself contains it's not much to say hurray about, sure, it does come with 6 new heists that are challenging but they are that in the wrong way. The main problem with the heists themselves is that 5 of them are basicly the same heist but on another location as you defend the drill, lockpick the containers inside and escape. Sounds like a regular bank heist to me the main difference being that you have very little cover and are pinned with snipers most of the time. This DLC did try something new that hasn't been used again being the ''secret'' document that leads you to the sixth heist being the Train Heist. This heist can be done stealth (a pain in the ass if you ask me) or loud (even more of a pain). But some of the problems with the other transport heists are still present with very little cover, snipers having you pinned most of the time and defending drills. For this reason is why I dislike this DLC, while the weapons are pretty good the heists are not. They are just cookie cutouts of themselves 5 times and a longer version of them for the sixth.
Gage Weapon Pack #01 My main problem with this weapon pack is that it limits the better throwables in the game to paid DLC just like the BBQ pack. And sure, you can but the asset if you own the DLC to other people but that still requires you to own it. While the weapons are nice it doesn't change that the main selling point for the DLC is the exclusive throwables, yeah there were no free throwable until Crimefest 2015 in case you didn't know. But as I said in my guide: > If you want hand grenades then the answer is yes, it does come with some good guns but the main selling point is being to throw explosives.
Gage Weapon Pack #02 While I find the LMGs fun to use at times it doesn't change what this pack actually has. Back in the day this was the only way to use an LMG and it had a movement speed penalty when hold combined with 0 pickup rate. That makes the weapons rather not wanted back in the day but since Crimefest 2015 they removed the penalty and added ammo pickup to the weapons themselves. But in the during the same time they also added the community LMG that makes the pack itself almost useless as it alone can do everything if not more than what every LMG in the pack does. This pack did however introduce new melee weapons but while this might have been cool and all back then, if you look at the amount of melee weapons we have now you might notice that maybe this wasn't such a good trend.
Gage Sniper Pack While I have loved using the Sniper Rifles in the past it doesn't change that the free sniper rifle out preforms almost every sniper in the game at the moment. And while I did see alot of people saying that the Thanatos is a reason to get this pack I say this: How often will the Thanatos out preform any gun? Because when you look at it's firing speed, damage per second and so on. You realize that the RPG is better for killing whatever you're using the Thanatos for as the RPG can also damage multiple enemies and can remove the captain from the map alot faster than the Thanatos can. While the Rattlesnake and the R93 are both excellent snipers, they are still rather weak when compared to the Platypus.
Gage Shotgun Pack When you look over the custom shotgun ammo you would notice that the only one I have found any use of is the HE rounds. The reason being (as explained by the guide) it can stun every special which is the only reason I find this type of shotgun ammo useful. Most of the others are less gimmicky but they do however add some stats at the cost of ammo pickup rate. This makes most of the custom shotgun ammo types rather weak. While yes, you could shot through shields, hit snipers and all that you would only use for those cases as your ammo amount and pickup is even worse than it was before equipping the ammo type. This makes them really bad as ammo is really important in this game. Maybe Fully Loaded Aced could negate the debuff to ammo pickup (have not tried this) but that would still mean that you are forced to do something else to make the ammo type useful. While the guns in the pack are alright they don't really make much of the pack unlike the HE rounds.
Gage Mod Courier While I have heard the argument that most of the top tier weapons no longer requires this DLC in order to reach its maximum damage output, this DLC does however give something to everything, either it be a sight or a gadget it's still a timeless DLC. While I mostly find this DLC useful as it adds some of the better sights and gadgets, it does also give some good barrel extensions and stocks for most weapons.
Gage Assault Pack While I personally love the GL40 with it's good damage, ammo pickup unlike the bows and the ability to stun dozers it doesn't change the fact that most of the fact is a bit on lack luster side. While none of the rifles in the pack are bad per say they don't really offer much else content wise. For this reason I could only maybe recommend it as it mostly offers utility in the form of the GL40 otherwise you get some good assault rifles.
Gage Historical Pack When you look at what the the Historical pack actually offers you quickly notice that most of the weapons are some of the better ones in the class. I would actually recommend this pack more if it was pre-crimefest 2015 since they made the Patchett worse than what it already was, turning it from a really unique SMG to a generic one. Other than that it does offer some really different ways to play the game while also adding one of the more annoying achievements in the game, looking at you Wind of Change.
Gage Ninja Pack The pack itself does introduce an entirely new mechanic and that alone is a selling point if you ask me. While they way of delivering the poison effect can be a bit gimmicky and doesn't work for everything it is still something that is very enjoyable to use. Sure, the Kross Vertex and the Lebesauger are great weapons even after the rebalance I still would say that the poison mechanic is the main and best selling point of the pack.
Gage Chivalry Pack Now this is one of the other packs that people would also recommend but I wouldn't but here is the thing, I don't think that it's a bad pack, I would actually argue against it but the main selling point of the pack is mostly the melee weapons and let's face it, they are not that good. While people keep mentioning the high damage output of the longbow and the crossbows with the explosive arrows it doesn't change that they have no ammo pickup making their ammo sacred to you. Sure you could just bring ammo bags to negate this but on larger maps that is gonna prove to be a problem as you are still feeding of your supplies in order to use it. While I like to use the bows time from time I still believe that the pack itself is not worth the cash.
The Overkill Pack Ever since Captain Winters was introduced most players reactions was: ''How do we get rid of him as fast as possible?''. But looking over the weapons in the game the largest contender is the RPG being 10 000 damage with a blast radius to help it. While they have patched Winters to not be able to take that much damage at once, you can still kill enough of his shields with one rocket to make him leave. While this was not the case back when this pack was released, this is the case today. And the minigun is alright I guess.
The Butcher's AK/CAR Mod Pack Now the largest argument to why this is a good pack is the buff to the DMR kits introduced in this pack. However all of the DMRs are achievement locked and even if you get them with a good team, you are still limited to the use of the pack. Would you honestly pay 4.99 for just the DMR kit? I think the answer is no, and as I stated in my guide the rest of the pack only applies to the AK/CAR family of weapons. While sure this DLC does make this weapon family alot stronger than it already was it is very limited compared to the Courier DLC.
The Butcher's BBQ Pack Molotovs combined with the weapons just makes this DLC a great pack on its own. Which is almost sad when you think about it, while this is a great DLC pack and all it also one of the largest pay2win cases in the game as well...
The Butcher's Western Pack Ever since the rebalance patch this pack has been made obsolete. While the dynamite and the Repeater could have some use they still took a heavy hit on the Peacemaker as well as the Plainriders. The peacemaker has the same damage as before but the reload is so slow, of course this was back then when the Peacemakers damage was considered really high is now nothing, combine that with its really long reload time it is worthless now. Plainriders bow is still good, don't get me wrong but it is worse than the English Longbow as the longbow has around 600 damage base, more ammo and the ability to kill Dozers with 1 arrow at the cost of concealment. For these reasons the pack is not really worth as much as it used to be.
The Big Bank I still belive that this is one of the better heist DLCs to date. While it only offers 1 gun it's still one really fun heist to do. Of course as I mentioned in the guide it did introduce pre-planning which I think is one of the best additions to the game. For these reasons alone I think this is a good DLC.
Hotline Miami This is by far one of my personal favourite heists out there, for a good price I might add. The Hotline Miami DLC is sort of a mix between a heist DLC and a weapons DLC as you get 3 different SMGs in this pack. I cannot recommend this DLC enough as it is just such a fun heist to play with alot of optional loot that you don't even have to get but it gives you such a payout if you cook the meth, get the weapons, find the cash and steal the cocaine.
The Diamond When you look at the pricing itself you notice that all you get is a 1 day heist for the price of a full DLC, nothing else. While I must say that The Diamond heist is alot of fun to play both loud and stealth it is still not worth the cash due to it lacking in content otherwise. For most DLC packs you normally get about 4 guns or a heist and couple of weapons, but here we only get a single day heist making it one of the most lack luster DLCs available.
The Bomb Heists While I personally like Dockyard and find the Leo Pistol to be just amazing I still think that the DLC pack is a bit on the meh side. While Dockyard is a stealth/loud mission, Bomb Forest is one if not the hardest heist in the game mostly due to the angle that the entire map is on and that the snipers have you pinned at most times. This heist is just pure nightmare material. But other than that the pack is alright actually I would still say a maybe to recommend it but by all means it's not the Completely Overkill Pack reward.
Alesso heist As mentioned in the guide, I didn't know who Alesso actually was until this this heist came which surprised some when I mentioned I was from Sweden. But throwing that out the window, the heist itself is fun to play at times but the main problems is when playing it with pubs. As you have to pick up the C4 in the closets and hit the bottoms in the correct order, this becomes a nightmare for people that shots before reading what the current objective is and only focuses on killing what is in front of them. I have been forced to kick multiple people just because they wouldn't stop hitting random bottoms during the pyrotechnics part of the heist. Of course this is just a problem with players themselves but I think that they could help people like this is some way so that we don't get another:

Add muratic acid Adds hydrogen chloride

The Golden Grin Casino Im gonna be honest here, I think that he Golden Grin is alot of fun to to play in both pubs and with friends as it is very straight forward, in loud. While this heist is really poorly optimized for some and runs smoothly for others (which is starting to become a really big problem with newer heists) the heist itself is however alot of fun to play. Another thing about this DLC is that it includes the Buzzer, which if you ask most high levelled players, it is one of the best melees in the game due to ability to stun any special except dozers.
The Point Break Heists While some didn't like the Point Break heists due to them being a movie tie in it doesn't change the fact that we got 2 heists for a cheaper price which I will gladly say yes to. While it did add one of the better pistols in the game to powercreep everything even more than it already is it still added 2 great heists to the roster. For this reason I find that the Point Break heists are worth your money since it offers quality content for your money minus the performance issues.
Goat Simulator Heist Im gonna be straight here, the heist is fun I will give you that, the shotgun is shit I will give you that, this crossover could have been done smoother. While I still believe that the wierd Goat Simulator crossover idea is really odd it doesn't change that the way the heist was made is good. It played differently from most heists in a way that could be frustrating for some and awesome for others. While I strongly believe that we will get more driven escapes instead of ''BILE HERE'' that will come and pick us up, people will get turned off from this DLC due to it being Goat Simulator related.
Clover Character Pack As mentioned in the guide itself, Clover has the Burglar perk deck which is the ONLY perk deck that benefits the stealth playstyle. While some dislike the stealth mechanic and others loving it, it won't change the fact that the only way to get more stealth bonuses that isn't in the Ghost skill tree is to purchase Clover. While Clover has some great lines and a good gun it will not remove the gigantic: BUY ME IF YOU LIKE STEALTH sigh above the steam page.
Dragan Character Pack While Muscle is the dominant armour perk deck for the moment, Infiltrator is still an amazing perk deck for general armour usage. The ability to take even less damage combined with techforcer is just splendid. While the way to gain health can be a bit difficult depending on the situation it will still give you the ability to soak more bullets which is never bad for any armour player. While I really like the Lions Roar for its look and practicality, the main selling point is still the perk deck just like Clover.
Sokol Character Pack * Do I think Grinder is still broken? Yes. * Should they increase the delay between health stacking? Yes. * Is Grinder my favourite perk deck? Yes.
While Grinder is one of the best perk decks in the game at the moment with it's ability to gain more health at almost any given time just makes it such a overpowered perk deck, which is sad for dodge players. Ever since the introduction of Grinder and the nerf to Rogue, maximum dodge builds has almost died out. While I enjoy playing a max dodge rogue build every now and then it won't change that when I play Deathwish with my buddies that I will pick Grinder as a default. While yes, Sokol has some great lines and Valkyeria being a great assault rifle it won't change that the Perk decks that comes with every character is the main reason to buy them and not the fact that you can play a new character that isn't from USA.
Yakuza Character Pack However, this is the only exception so far. Jiro's perk deck being Yakuza is pretty much useless. With health regen builds being the dominant way to play the game at the moment, running a build that gets worse with health regen is pretty damn bad. Another problem with this pack is that there is no translation to all of Jiro's Japanese lines, which sucks for almost every player in the community as most of us don't speak Japanese. But the selling point of this pack however is the Katana. When you look over the melee weapons in the game you would notice that the Katana has just raw damage, speed and knockdown for its user making it the best melee weapon for just pure, raw and large amounts of damage.
And that is my longer version of my DLC guide that was a basic rundown of every DLC released so far. And there will always be arguments against you when you lay your opinion on the internet so if you don't agree with me just say why. Your opinion your choice right?

When the DLC is released OR the trigger is found, we will finally get a mission or series of missions containing the Asteroid crash, Chiliad/Children/Kraff/God?, Jetpack, alien egg(s), Zancudo vents, bunker, server room, UFO and other various elements. The mural depicts the easter egg being directly connected to the mountain UFO, which is the only visible tip of the iceberg of the mystery. The jetpack and "ufo with passenger" icons are not directly connected to the easter egg, they only connect through a series of [x] boxes which symbolize missing / removed content which will be filled in with DLC OR possibly unlocking 5 pieces of hidden content)

(They are static parts of the 3D model, and their texture is shared with the UFO, which is why you can see part of the word SEGREGATE on the left pilots leg. (After the mission Minor Turbulence, Ron says "the hardware may be salvaged with dive gear" to which Trevor replies "Good idea, but it will take time". This reply makes no sense. You can go get the supposed salvaged weapons right away after this mission (if we assume the collectible weapons on the sea floor near the wreckage are the "hardware"). But what if that assumption is wrong, and there is more hardware inside the fuselage which R* needs more time to create a DLC / storyline for? OR we are meant to come back much later, IE after 100% and triggering something.)

So i saw today the news flash about the Take-Two president saying loot boxes are not gambling, and all this in the fresh and hot backlash of what is the second hottest topic I've ever seen in the gaming industry and that is EA's Star Wars Battlefront II loot box controversy.
Let me tell you this, if you spend real life money on something and you don't know exactly what you get for it, then that is a form of gambling, period. Of course there is always an intermedium currency, in a casino you buy chips with real money and those chips are used for gambling. In a micro-transaction game you buy an intermedium currency with real life money and then spend this intermedium currency on loot boxes, card packs or whatever it's called. For example in Star Wars Battlefront II you cannot buy a Darth Vader or a +4 purple item at once, you buy chances for those items hence why they are gambling in it's purest form.
What makes gambling in games even more dangerous is that there are no laws for it (yet). For example a teenager cannot walk into a casino and spend hundreds of dollars, heck he can not even walk into a casino, period. That same teenager can legally buy Star Wars Battlefront II (it's rated T for Teen by the ESRB because of mild language and violence) and can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on loot boxes without a problem. On a side-note, what would be worse for a parent when his/her kids buy this game? The mild language they already hear at school? The violence they already see in movies? Or the fact that the kids with a (maybe unknown at the time) gambling addiction might start wasting hundreds of dollars? That ESRB rating is so out of date and needs to be overhauled completely and urgently to today's loot box standards, on a global scale.
What is even worse than real life gambling is how the loot box gambling system is coming straight into homes and families with children via their beloved games and franchises. You just sit in front of your computer or TV, playing your beloved Star Wars game and the game is convincing you with every step you make to strengthen your character, which can only be done by a painfully, unrealistically long grind.... or buying loot boxes. With a single press of a button you can spend $99.99 on the intermedium currency so you can start opening loot boxes (where more likely than not, you will not even get the items you want from it). That is a whole lot easier than needing to take the effort to take your coat, step into your car, physically drive to a casino and start gambling there.
I'm 42 years old myself and I never ever had a gambling addiction. Casino's don't interest me, simply because for starters there is that barrier to physically needing to go there. But this new form of loot box gambling in games has already costed me an estimated 2000 to 3000 EUR, mostly in mobile games like HearthStone and CSR2. Games like these are dangerous and need to be rated. It's not actually a gambling addiction that persuaded me to spend hundreds of EUR on these games, in both cases I wanted to have the complete game, all the cards in HearthStone (which also gives a multiplayer advantage) and all the cars in CSR2. Fast forward to today I don't even play CSR 2 anymore and I limited myself to 1 card pack for each new HearthStone expansion release.
In my opinion all micro-transaction systems I've seen in all sorts of games fit into one of the following 4 categories:
1) Pay-to-win, pay-to-progress with gambling involved. The worse of the worse. This is for games like FIFA Ultimate Team, Hearthstone, Star Wars Battlefront II, CSR 2 and others where buying card packs, loot boxes, silvebronze car keys will give you a CHANCE to get the item you want. This is 100% gambling, period.
2) Pay-to-win, pay-to-progress for a fixed price (no gambling involved). This is for games like World of Tanks, Forge of Empires (partially, it has some of the first group in it as well), Forza Motorsport DLC cars, where you can buy certain in-game items that are better (or potentially better) than what is in the base game. And even while there is no gambling involved, there is still an addiction involved, especially if you are a completist like me who loves to keep his games up-to-date with all the latest content for it. You could say that season passes and DLC for a lot of games fit into this category as well, you can buy additional content and you know upfront how much exactly it costs and what you will get for it.
3) Pay-for-cosmetics with gambling involved. This is the category where games like Overwatch belong, there is gambling involved just as much as in the first group above, but it's only for cosmetic items. While for some people this might not matter much and it seems to be overall much more accepted by the gaming community, for others it can be just as addictive since those people might care a lot how their character looks online, perhaps even more than how strong their character is.
4) Pay-for-cosmetics for a fixed price (no gambling involved). This is for example Assassin's Creed Origins and what you can buy in the Ubisoft Store. You can for example buy new mounts and outfits for the game where you know upfront how much they cost, but they don't really affect the strength of your character, it's purely cosmetic.
There needs to be a new rating system to classify the gambling in games and the potential risk to waste hundreds or thousands of dollars on these games. And in my opinion that is far more important than the current ESRB rating for sex, blood, violence and bad language.
