[WTS/WTT] 🔥🔥GRAIL SALE🔥🔥Shirogorov/CRK UniHati Aqua Twill 1 of 10 made!!!

Timestamp and pics
action video w/ sound
Shiro/CRK UniHati Aqua Twill easily the smoothest Shiro I’ve ever put my hands on. Won this in the lotto over the summer and it’s been sitting in my case ever since. If I could describe this knife in one word it would be”premium”. Vanax 37 blade steel with a beautiful mirror stonewash that you normally don’t see on the collabs or CD. Pivot is using the single row roller bearings system for an unbelievably smooth yet hydraulic drop shut that defies gravity. This has the unique graphic from CRK and came with some light blue and purple Ano stock in the grooves . Being the mad man that I am I decided to lightly polish the main graphic on the show side to more of a mirror and pretty much removed the Ano in the grooves all together. So for this reason it will be technically getting a (C+) grade as it was modified but other than that it’s still LNIB. They stopped making these after this run and moved onto the smaller Uni-Hation. This is basically a Hati NL CD/collab and I know those were super popular selling out immediately. This is your chance to get a cool piece of knife making history and I mean come on who doesn’t love some aqua twill right!?
Looking for 2K SV/TV and open to partial trades with cash added on your end. Interested in other shiros and would like to try a brown cortex as well. PM me with any offers!! PayPal GS and will be shipping usps express overnight.

5 Belgian Neopros at Soudal-Lotto (Sporza)

Translated from: https://sporza.be/nl/2020/12/22/5-belgische-neoprofs-bij-lotto-soudal-er-zullen-enkele-sterke-renners-uit-voortkomen~1608664072424/
In 2021, Lotto-Soudal will be playing the youth card more than ever. No fewer than 5 Belgians will make their professional debut this season. Talent coach Kurt Van de Wouwer introduces them one by one.
Sébastien Grignard
21 - From Mons
Best youth results: 3rd at the European Time Trial Championships for juniors (2017) and 4th at Paris-Roubaix for juniors (2017)
Did you know: his father is a producer at RTBF
"The silent worker with a good time trial"
"Grignard is a time trialist who can also hold his own in Flemish work", says Kurt Van de Wouwer. "Grignard was a top cyclist in the juniors. Unfortunately, he saw his first season in the reserves go wrong due to mononucleosis. Last season, corona threw a spanner in the works. Grignard fits well into the team. If he is sitting at the table with 6 to 7 riders, he will not speak up quickly. But he is a hard worker, you can ask him anything you want. I don't really see him as a finisher, because he is not fast to the line. He still has a lot of margin in the time trial."
Sylvain Moniquet
22 - From Andenne
Best youth results: 4th in the Tour of Lombardy for U23 (2020) and 6th in the Peace Race (2019)
Did you know: the slopes of the Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège are on his training course.
"The climber that grows steadily"
"Moniquet is a real climber type. He has been a promise for 4 years and has taken a step forward every year. Last year as well, Moniquet performed fairly regularly in a fragmented 2020. He was at the time with the development team of Groupama-FDJ, before that he was riding for the development team of Wallonie-Bruxelles. Where there's climbing to be done, Moniquet always comes out well. I see him more as a stage race-rider than a rider for the climbing classics."
Maxim Van Gils
21 - From Wuustwezel
Best youth results: 1st in the Junior Alpine Classic (2017) and 3rd in the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc (2020)
Did you know: Van Gils has a history as a cyclocrosser. He finished 6th at the NC cyclocross for juniors in 2017.
"The atmosphere maker who can finish it in a small group"
"As a U23, Van Gils was slowed down a few times by crashes. But that didn't stop him from finishing 2nd twice in the Giro della Valle d'Aosta Mont Blanc, one of the toughest stage races for U23. Van Gils is a very nice and pleasant lad to be around. He creates ambiance at the table", says Van de Wouwer. "Van Gils has some punch in his legs and can finish in a small group. The difficult one-day work must therefore suit him. We will also use Van Gils in stage races of 1 week. In two years we will see him in a Grand Tour."
Viktor Verschaeve
21 - From Zwijndrecht
Best youth results: stage victory in the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc (2020) and 2nd in Liège-Bastogne-Liège for U23 (2019)
Did-you-know: In December, Verschaeve rented a house in Benissa (Spain), together with team mates Brent Van Moer and Florian Vermeersch and Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise rider Alex Colman. The successors of Jonge Benen (Stuyven, Wellens, De Bie and Vervaeke)?
"Master peaker who can aim for stage victories and climbing classics"
"Verschaeve suffered from a groin injury last season, but an operation this winter should have resolved that", says Van de Wouwer. "In the long run I see him able to aim for stage victories in a Grand Tour. Verschaeve could also peak very well to the climbing classics in the U23, managing to really focus on them. In the professional team of Lotto-Soudal he is reunited with his buddy Brent Van Moer. The 2 youngsters live close to each other and often train together. That is always an extra motivation."
Xandres Vervloesem
20 - From Massenhoven
Best youth results: 1st in the Tour de l'Isard (2020), 2nd in the E3 Harelbeke for juniors (2018) and 5th in Gent-Wevelgem for juniors (2018)
Did you know: Vervloesem moved to Sittard (the Netherlands) a few years ago, because he started riding for the Sunweb development team.
"The student with an excellent recovery capacity"
"Vervloesem is the youngest of our 5 Belgian neo-pros. In 2019 he was part of the Sunweb training team, but after health problems, he ended up with our U23 team. I see Vervloesem mainly as a climber. He has a good recovery capacity, so stage races are his thing." In the juniors, Vervloesem was the 3rd strong Belgian internationally behind Evenepoel and Van Wilder. "I think there is still a lot of potential in Vervloesem. He is also studying environmental and natural sciences."
Van de Wouwer: "Bitter to see Vandenabeele go"
"Of the 5 Belgian neo-pros, nobody really stands out", says Van de Wouwer. "Not all of them will have a top career. But I am sure that some strong riders will emerge in the long run. It is only a shame that Henri Vandenabeele will not go professional with us. I was very sorry when I heard that he would move to Team DSM. Even if we did everything we could to keep him at the team. Vandenabeele would have every opportunity with us. But you can't force anyone to stay."
Lotto-Soudal also saw top U23 riders such as Laurens De Plus and Ilan Van Wilder go pro for another team in the past. "There should be a system with development fees. But that is something people have been talking about for years", Van de Wouwer concludes.

Adopt a Giro Rider! (2020 edition)

Adopt a Giro Rider! (2020 edition)

All riders have been adopted, in just over 15 hours!
If you're late to the party, don't despair! You can still join in on the adoption fun, because shared custody applications are now open. After all, what's better than one hype man? An entire hype cult! Look up whoever adopted your preferred rider in the list below, send them a message to ask if you can join them in supporting that rider, and if they confirm your co-adoption by commenting on this thread, we'll add you to the list!
As part of a long-running Grand Tour tradition here on peloton, you get to adopt one of the cyclists in this year's Giro d'Italia!
When a Thomas de Gendt or a Pierre Rolland makes the break, there is joy for cycling fans globally: why not have the same joy when Luca Covili or Mattia Bais is off the front? That's where adopted riders come in. When you adopt a rider, you become their hype (wo)man, their biggest fan, their mascot, and maybe even their shoulder to cry on. Being an adopted parent can be compared to being a soccer mom; enthusiastically cheering your kid on from the sidelines, even when your kid sucks at soccer. It's a sacred bond: don't treat it lightly.
If your adopted rider is having a good day: maybe they're leading the peloton, maybe they've scored some mountain points, or maybe they just caught the TV camera's eye while fetching a buttload of bidons: cheer for them, and let us know in the race thread so we can all share in the happiness! There will also be special Adopted Rider Threads on rest days and after the race where everyone can share any news, stories, or happenings concerning their adopted rider.
Extra credit to those who approach their adopted rider on social media to let them know they've been adopted. It might just give them that extra bit of strength to finish in the top 100 on the next stage.
The top 20-ish competitors on this list have been excluded from adoption, as well as some others. That still leaves a lot of riders, but we have run out before, so make your picks quickly!
Here's a list of riders you can adopt:
AG2R La Mondiale
Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec
Astana Pro Team
Bahrain - McLaren
Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè
BORA - hansgrohe
CCC Team
Cofidis, Solutions Crédits
Deceuninck - Quick Step
EF Pro Cycling
Groupama - FDJ
Israel Start-Up Nation
Lotto Soudal
Mitchelton-Scott
Movistar Team
NTT Pro Cycling
INEOS Grenadiers
Team Jumbo-Visma
Team Sunweb

An abridged history of Deceuninck-Quick Step (Part 2)

In the first part of my grand epic on DQT, we started off at the roots of the team. From the MG-GB team and Mapei-Viner teams a new giant in cycling would be born. Over the coming years, the Belgian-Italian team would dominate the cycling classics, but would also come close to its end.

1995 season

Let’s go over what we have. At the start of 1996, Mapei took up GB as it’s new cosponsor, and with it, the Belgian core of the GB-MG Magliaficio squad. Losing a few other riders like aging ‘90 Vuelta winner Marco Giovannetti and the decent Swiss puncheur Mauro Gianetti and gaining Museeuw, Peeters and Bomans, this meant a serious improvement to the team’s core. With a cobbled squad consisting of Museeuw, Tafi, Ballerini, Peeters and Bortolami, all featured in the previous chapter of our story, wins were surely guaranteed. Not to mention the shirt. I promise it's getting it's own chapter.
The early season is full of promise: the classic squad scores with Museeuw in the Italian opener of Laigueglia and with Ballerini in the Belgian opener Omloop Het Volk, and even the traditional domestiques get to share in the glory as Bart Leysen wins E3. On April 1st, the day before the Ronde van Vlaanderen, the biggest shockwave in Belgian cycling for that year happens: the shining diamond of the Lotto team, Frank Vandenbroucke, makes a midseason transfer to Mapei. After showing streaks of brilliance last year at the age of 20, Lefevere wanted him and Mapei wanted to pay for him: they offered him enough money to buy out his Lotto contract and he went to make what looked like an unavoidable move, desperate to learn from some of cycling’s biggest stars. Later in the season he would have a spectacular win in Paris-Bruxelles.
In high spirits, the team attacks the Ronde Van Vlaanderen in typical fashion: with brutal and overwhelming force. Museeuw breaks clear on the Muur and is protected by his strong teammates Bortolami and Ballerini, with Peeters, Tafi, Willems and Leysen being essential in the setup for the victory. He wins with 1:30 lead over ex-teammate Fabio Baldato. And the wins don’t stop coming: the ‘95 Paris-Roubaix is a prey for Franco Ballerini, who attacks from far out and gets protected by Museeuw, Bortolami and Tafi who finish in the 15-man group which sprints for 2nd place. Museeuw gets beaten by Tchmil, but it’s a glorious day: 2 teammates on the podium of a monument is quite the performance.
Meanwhile you might have forgotten that Mapei-Clas didn’t only have its Italian classic riders, but also strong and impressive Grand Tour contenders. Tony Rominger is one of them, and he shows he’s in good for by crushing his homerace in Romandie before absolutely destroying the Giro d’Italia by winning 3 TTs, a mountaintop finish and the general classification with a 4 minute lead over the Gewiss-Ballan duo Berzin-Ugrumov. The Tour de France was a rather sad affair, due to Escartin losing 6 minutes in a 54km hilly TT, and Rominger not being able to compete with Indurain, Riis and Zülle in the high mountains.
In the Vuelta, Abraham Olano gets crushed by 3 dominant ONCE riders: Laurent Jalabert wins the GC, 5 stages, the points jersey and KOM jersey, and teammates Bruyneel and Mauri end 3rd and 4th in the GC to sweep the teams classification as well. Olano snatches the 3 time trial victories and another stage is won by the Italian sprinter Baffi. However, Olano had planned a different peak...
On the inhumanly brutal Duitama course, 15 laps with a 4,2km climb averaging 7,8% with the lowest elevation at 2491m, Olano would go on to win the World Championship ahead of his compatrion Indurain and Marco Pantani. Mapei would go on to have plenty more World Champions on their ranks. At first glance, I’m seeing a total of 10 road race championships for riders of Lefevere’s team since 1995. It showcases the talent of Lefevere to assemble a team of the best one day racers in the world, but also of his skills in pressuring national teams to assign his riders as leaders for the championships. If we include the 4 team trial championships in the 7 years it was organised, and the handful of ITT championships won by Michael Rogers and Tony Martin, it shows an impressive resume in sniping down the rainbow jersey.
The “new” Mapei-GB team would end the season as the #1 ranked team on the UCI ranking, with 50 total victories, 3 World Cup victories (Museeuw also won the legendary Zuri Metzgete), dozens of semi-classics and plenty of GT stages.

1996 season

The 1996 transfers are relatively mild. Sure, the team loses out Fernando Escartin, but it recruits some Italian youngsters and a fresh young Belgian sprinter: Tom Steels. And since you don’t change a winning team, why make more transfers?
The year starts off delightfully: Fitte Peeters leads out neopro Tom Steels to a win in Omloop Het Volk. Nowadays they form the powerduo in Deceuninck’s team car, and it was in these years that their bond was forged. The year continues nicely with Carlo Bomans winning E3 and Museeuw snatching victory in the Brabantse Pijl, still held with finish on the Bruineput, which is the real finish of that race.
Spirits were high for the Ronde Van Vlaanderen. And of course the race was won by...Michele Bartoli, of the MG Maglificio team. Museeuw has a flat just before the Muur, where Bartoli distances the elite group. Oh, and to rub salt in the wound, Museeuw gets outsprinted for 2nd place by another ex-teammate, Fabio Baldato, leading to a very sour podium for Mapei-GB. This would not stand: furious calls were made between the Mapei company headquarters and the cycling team. Company manager Giorgio Squinzi put it quite frankly: They better pull something out of the bag for Roubaix, or the season would be ruined. Tom Steels won a 100-man mass sprint in Gent-Wevelgem the wednesday after the Ronde, but the real exploit was expected on sunday.

1996 Paris-Roubaix

Yes, the race that gets it’s own chapter. I could write about it myself, but allow me to cite mmitchell30 ‘s piece for ProCyclingUK.com - and you can also watch from 7:45 onwards in this highlights video.
*“With 86km to go in the race, 4 members of the Mapei team escaped off the front of the peloton. They were Johan Museeuw, Gianluca Bortolami, Andrea Tafi and Franco Ballerini. It’s very very rare to see most of a team just disappear off the front so far from the finish. It’s even rarer to see no-one from another team able to make the move. The most recent race where I can remember a similar event is the famous 2015 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. In that race, Ian Stannard bested a trio of Quickstep riders.
Whilst trying to get away Franco Ballerini punctured 3 times within 12km and ended up falling back. Ultimately he’d be caught by Lotto’s Andrej Tchmil and Gewiss’ Stefano Zanini. He got to enjoy a nice draft to the finish line once he stopped doing his own chase. Andrej Tchmil missed a corner and ended up 3 minutes behind the other two riders by the finish. Museuuw himself punctured on the Orchies secteur and his teammates had to wait for him.
The managing director of team sponsor Mapei called the team director Patrick Lefevere with 15km to go. The director wanted to ensure that Johan Museeuw won the race. With 8km to go Museeuw punctured which caused confusion amongst the 3 riders at the front. Eventually Tafi and Bortolami waited and once they arrived at the Velodrome, Museeuw won without having to sprint. The sponsor’s directive being adhered to. The pair of Zanini and Ballerini finished 4th and 5th. They were 2 minutes 38 behind the podium and a similar gap ahead of the next group.
The 1996 Paris-Roubaix race eventually became the quickest race in terms of average speed since the route had been altered in 1968. Museeuw’s winning ride was at an average of 43.31kph.”*
The picture of these 3 teammates crossing the finishing line in perfect harmony is one of the most iconic pictures of 90s cycling in my opinion. It showed the utter dominance of the Mapei team in the classics of that era.

Rest of the 1996 season

Well, you have to come down from such a rush. Mapei would go on to win the Scheldeprijs with an attack from Frank Vandenbroucke and Museeuw got 3rd place in the Amstel Gold Race. Frank Vandenbroucke went on to win 4 stages and the GC of the Tour of Austria and the GP Plouay. The “old” Mapei-Clas core also had a decent season. Olano managed a 3rd place in the Giro and only very nearly lost the Olympic time trial in Atlanta, Rominger got 3rd in a Vuelta where Mapei won 5 stages. The only disappointment was the Tour de France: despite a promising opening, with Olano and Rominger ending week 2 on 2nd and 3rd place of the GC behind a surprisingly untiring Bjarne Riis. In stage 17 however, Riis, his Telekom team with young Jan Ullrich and the Festina riders Dufaux and Virenque, went on a massive mountain raid and put the Mapei riders on 8 minutes in the flat end of the stage. Olano and Rominger dropped to 9th and 10th place, and ended the TDF in those positions and without a stage win.
In the ‘96 world championships on a hilly parcours in Lugano, Johan Museeuw would go on to win the rainbow jersey after a dominating sprint against his Swiss opponent and former Mapei-Clas rider Mauro Gianetti, keeping the title in the team. His real rival, Michele Bartoli, would be frustrated by the work of Axel Merckx who covered his every move to protect Museeuw’s break. And to close off the season, Andrea Tafi would go on to win Lombardia from an early break, despite his rather large body frame. This was the era of big riders winning mountainous stage races and classics, and Mapei formed no exception.
The season would however also be marked by a true exodus. A lot of the Clas-core riders saw their contracts expire, and they chose to cash in on their results. Rominger and Olano would go on to lead Cofidis and Banesto respectively, Bortolami would transfer to Festina team as their new leader. A lot of domestiques and riders for the smaller Spanish and Italian races also left, requiring a rebuild of half the squad.

1997 season

A solution was found in the failing Panaria-Vinavil team. Despite a good year with Pavel Tonkov winning the Giro, Jan Svorada showing he has some of the fastest legs in the peloton and Oscar Camenzind showing flashes of puncheur brilliance, the team doesn’t recover from losing main sponsor Lampre the year before and gets absorbed into Mapei. Targeted recruitment also happens: Gianni Bugno is brought on as a road captain, and despite only winning a Vuelta and Langkawi stage in his final 2 years, his experience provides value to the countless youngsters on the Mapei squad. Other notable recruits include Nico Mattan, Belgian baroudeur who would form a strong bond with Frank Vandenbroucke, Stefano Zanini (the only non-Mapei rider in the top 5 of the ‘96 Roubaix) and the aging Zenon Jaskula, who got a 3rd place in the ‘93 Tour for GB-MG Magliaficio. Lefevere picking up cheap deals? Where did you hear that before?
Well, the year wasn’t quite as glorious. In terms of raw wins, they certainly performed quite nicely: 78 victories sounds like a typical Lefevere year, but they lacked a certain zing. Only one World Cup victory was achieved, with Andrea Tafi winning the Wincanton Classic, but in “their” races the harvest was rather meagre. Museeuw got punished by a badly timed flat tire in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, where Ballerini got outsprinted by Rolf Sorensen and Frederic Moncassin in their 3-man breakaway. In the ‘97 Roubaix race, a rather large group stayed together until deep in the final, with 27 riders finishing within 30 seconds of the winner. The race was decided with a sprint between 8 of the best riders of the cobbled classics, with Frederic Guesdon (Francaise des Jeux) beating Jo Planckaert (Lotto) and Museeuw.
Another 3rd place, and no improvement was to come: Museeuw sprinted to a consolation 6th place behind LBL winner Bartoli’s breakaway, and Andrea Tafi finished off the classic season with a 2nd place in the Amstel Gold Race. With only wins on Kuurne and Brabantse Pijl, this year had a dreadful spring campaign for what looked like a dominating Mapei team. The hopes for a recovery in the rest of the year were high, but couldn’t quite deliver. While plenty of smaller races like Tour of Austria, Volta a Portugal, Romandia and Luxembourg were won and even dominated, nothing quite went their way.
Pavel Tonkov won 3 stages and got 2nd in the Giro GC, behind Ivan Gotti, and the Mapei squad got 2 more victories from breakaways. In the Giro, Tonkov suffered badly in the first weeks and lost half an hour, but recovered with 2 mountaintop finishes while Jan Svorada got 3 sprint wins. In the Tour de France, dominated by Ullrich and his Telekom team where Riis got thrown overboard stage after stage, things were worse though. Tom Steels, frustrated by several missed sprint chances after his 2nd place in the first stage, got disqualified from the race for a mid-masssprint bidon toss towards Frederic Moncassin. This overshadowed the 2nd place Frank Vandenbroucke got in stage 3, where he looked like he was gonna win an uphill sprint if it wasn’t for Eric Zabel. Vandenbroucke would go on to get another 2nd place in a sprint of the GC favourites in a medium mountain stage, but Mapei had to leave Paris empty handed. Camenzind got 12th place in the GC, Jaskula and Nardello turned out too weak to contend for a GC placement, and ex-Mapei riders Olano and Escartin had decent races with a 4th and 5th place behind a brutally impressive Ullrich.
The 78 wins would seem impressive, but no Tour de France victory and no Monument victory absolutely crushed the spirit of the team. Even the World Championships didn’t bring relief: a small break without Mapei riders contested the victory on the San Sebastian parcours, with Laurent Brochard being a surprising winner. Another 2nd place in Lombardia, for Paolo Lanfranchi, who I genuinely hadn’t heard off before, put the nail in the coffin of the 1997 season.
The season ended with some more news: GB would disappear as a sponsor of the team, and would be replaced by it’s DIY store’s brand Bricobi. Transferwise the season would end calmly, Carlo Bomans opted for a pre-retirement year at Palmans, while Zenon Jaskula ended his career with another year at a smaller Eastern European team. A few neopros were recruited to fill the void, on a one year-contract: GB’s sponsorship was expected to run out at the end of the coming season, with no expectations for a renewment. Was this the ending of a team that had been so bright over the last few years?

Official /r/nba Power Rankings #11 - Gone Fishing (08.17.2020)

22/30 rankers reporting this week. /NBA's Power Rankings are published every two weeks which is a bit different from most rankings. Other than that we rank the teams the same way as our competition. If write ups are left blank the team rep decided not to submit. We encourage any user to fill in the blanks in the comment section. Rankings were completed prior to Today's games. We will be looking for at minimum a ranker for San Antonio and Philly next season, so stay tuned during the off season if you would like to represent one of those teams.
# Team Δ Record Comment
1 Bucks -- 56-17 The Bucks finish the Bubble 3-5, and Khris Middleton missed out on a 20ppg 50/40/90 season by 2 shots, it felt like we averaged 25 TOs a game , and Giannis headbutted Mo Wagner (FYI Wagner is a fan of George Zimmerman) and was subsequently suspened for the last bubble game. Despite all that it was a decent 8-games for the Bucks. In the rarity Giannis was actually on the floor, the team had a NETRTG of +8.5, Brook Lopez appeared to find his 3-pt shot he'd been missing all season, and everyone made it through the 8 games pretty damn healthy.
2 Lakers -- 52-19 The Lakers essentially clinched the #1 seed after beating the Clippers in the first game back from the hiatus. They went on to lose most of the other games though as many players were in and out of the lineup for resting purposes. The Blazers are an offensive machine so this should be an exciting series.
3 Raptors -- 53-19 Solid stretch of games for the raptors to finish out the bubble. Unfortunately the majority of the games involved heavy bench play which can be tough to draw any conclusions from, but a win is a win. Hopefully having our bench play such big minutes as of late can get them better prepared for the postseason as one of our biggest struggles this year has been inconsistency from the bench.
4 Clippers -- 49-23 Clips look really awesome, and with Harrel coming back soon, they'll have probably the best bench in the playoffs. PatBev is still hurt so while we won't be at full power, Playoff Kawhi will be a sight to see. I look forward to seeing this team in action, Hopefully they can get some rest with a swift 4-0 win (though I doubt it)
5 Celtics +1 48-24 "The Celtics finished the bubble strong, and are set to face the 76ers in the 1st round of the playoffs. With Ben Simmons out, not to mention the fact Embiid finished the bubble hobbled, it seems like most people are saying the Celtics should more or less breeze through the 1st round. On paper the Celtics should win, but with Embiid and Philly, who knows. Embiid and Horford could very well feast on Kanter and Theis, leaving Robert ""Timelord"" Williams as the last line of defense to throw out there for 20+ minutes a game. My personal prediction is that the Celtics will drop game 1, but then the rest of the series is a rather dominant preformance by the Celtics.
6 Nuggets +1 46-27 With the help of some, uh, "strategic losing", the Nuggets have landed their ideal first round matchup against the short-handed Jazz. With both Will Barton and Gary Harris missing all eight seeding games, the odds of either of them playing significant minutes in this series are slim. Fortunately, two fantastic bubble performances from Michael Porter Jr. (who has officially secured his spot in the starting lineup) and PJ Dozier should help fill the shoes that Barton and Harris have left. While the most notable matchup in this series is obviously Jokic vs. Gobert, the more important matchup for both teams is Donovan Mitchell vs. Torrey Craig. Craig has made life difficult for Mitchell this season, who only averaged 19 PPG on 30% shooting in 3 games vs Denver this year, and if the Nuggets can maintain that pressure on Mitchell, it will be tough for the Jazz to score consistently in this series.
7 Rockets -2 44-28 As the playoffs start, Rockets fans can only hope for the swift return of Russell Westbrook, but luckily, the Bearded One is still on the team, and when that man is on the team, you can never count us out.
8 Thunder +1 44-28 After Paul George forced his way to Los Angeles and local hero Russell Westbrook soon followed him out of town, it was widely anticipated that the Thunder would begin the dreaded process of tanking (cue infmaous "0.2% to make the playoffs" screenshot). Twelve months, one coronavirus, and 8 seeding games later, it turns out that OKC's "tank job" has more in common with an M1 Abrams than the Process-era Sixers. Though without any actual home court advantage, the Thunder now entire a playoff series against Westbrook's present team. With Westbrook out for at least the first game with an injury, and Harden shooting an average of under 33% from the field against OKC, the Thunder might even be favored.
9 Heat -1 44-29 It's playoff bubble time and I'm excited for our series against the Pacers. They've got some similarities to how we play and it'll be a series that's dependent on who's defense is better. If they're able to put a cap on our main performers then we might be out before the 2nd round. We've lost DJJ to a scary collison and thankfully it's a neck strain and not something more serious. We'll be missing him defensively and offensively since his lob chemistry with Goran is amazing. Personally, I hope this series is reminiscent of the Big 3 era Pacers vs Heat series, because it was my favorite series growing up. The finals against San Antonio were cool but the ECF against Pacers has a Indiana shaped spot in my heart.
11 Pacers +1 45-28 All said and done in the seeing games, Indiana has clinched the fourth seed, and they now turn their sights towards the Miami Heat. The two teams are very different from their 3 playoff series in the early 2010s, but there remains no love lost between the teams and their fanbases. Miami won the season series 3-1, with the lone Pacer victory coming in the final game of the season where neither team played their ideal lineups. Indiana will likely turn to 1st team All-Bubble member T.J. Warren for its offensive attack, but how they adjust when the stingy Heat defense forces other options will likely determine the Pacers' fate in this series.
11 Jazz -1 44-28 With the end of the regular season, Utah is prepared to enter the playoffs matched up against the Denver Nuggets in the first round. Mike Conley recently left the bubble for the birth of his new baby son, with no solid timetable for a playoff return. Bojan is stll out for the foreseeable future, and Ed Davis will be out with an ACL injury for a couple of weeks, so the Jazz will be short a few starters for the series.
12 Mavericks -1 43-32 Dallas' season may most notably go down for what other teams did to them, including Portland with the bounce of the year to push them into the play-in game over Phoenix, as well as the Rockets/Mavs opener thriller and the two Phoenix losses. Dallas was the only team with 2 players on the All-Bubble teams, which highlights how much Doncic and Porzingis carry the Mavs' offense, considering a 10 points per game difference in the whole season scoring vs bubble scoring for Porzingis. The Mavs have a tough first round matchup vs my #1 team, the Clippers, who get Harrell back. The Mavs must get a well-rounded game from the reserves and role players in order to make noise in the playoffs.
13 76ers -- 43-30
14 Trail Blazers +1 35-39 Heroic efforts from Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic dragged the Blazers into the playoffs. If they hope to compete with the Lakers, though, they'll need more success guarding the perimeter and complementary players will need to hit open jumpers when Lillard is double teamed.
15 Suns +4 34-39 Last power rankings I said the Suns were going 8-0 and making the play-in... and I was 1 Caris Levert jumper from that prediction coming true. Suns finished 8-0 in the bubble and with the way they were playing, had they made the play in, they would have won it. If you want some spice - the Suns would have taken AT LEAST two from the Lakers. Some say the bubble Suns were a flash in the pan but was it really? The Suns finished the regular season with a higher net rating than three playoff teams but lost 8 one possession games this year and dropped more than 10 games in which they led by double digits points. A couple bounces here and there and this team could have been easily in with no play-in. The forecast is definitely sunny in PHX
16 Nets +4 35-37 Let's see if Caris can sneak a game away from the stifling Raptors defense. We expect to see a lot of Caris vs OG in this series with all other major ball handlers being.... back up talent at best. The Raptors have played the Nets very well in the past so a 5 game series is really the ultimate goal here.
17 Grizzlies -3 34-39
18 Magic -2 33-40 Isaac tearing his ACL and nagging injuries to Evan, AG and MCW really put a damper on the last few weeks. Guess it's about getting some more playoff experience and looking towards the draft and next season. WeltHam have some questions to answer this offseason, and I don't think bringing in a healthy Chuma and a near-lotto pick will be enough to quell the fanbase.
19 Spurs -2 32-39
20 Pelicans -2 30-42
21 Kings -- 31-41 The Kings did not get the bubble miracle many had hoped for going just 3-5, but things are looking up in Sacramento after the recent resignation of Vlade Divac. An underrated part of this is the increased likelihood that a new GM will want their own coach and the Kings can be freed from Luke Walton. Will it be Sam Hinkie? What if Daryl Morey finds himself looking for a job? Regardless the new GM will have some interesting decisions to make this offseason. Keep an eye on the impending free agency of Harry Giles.
22 Wizards -- 25-47 “You are learning something every day. A [rookie] has brains, but it doesn't know much. Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are [in the bubble] the more experience you are sure to get.” - L Frank Baum, the Wonderful Wizard of [Ish Smith]
23 Hornets -- 23-42
24 Bulls -- 22-43 Jim Boylen was fired, after going 39-84 with our young squad.. Though the firing came 620 days too late, the Bulls once again look toward the future. The 2020-2021 season looks to be the third year straight in which we Bulls fans get optimistic for another 8-seed run. After all, after this draft we'll finally have all the pieces, right? ..... RIGHT?
25 Hawks -- 20-47 Wouldn't it just be the most Hawks thing of all time to win the draft lottery in one of the worst draft lotteries in the last 20 years? Cause that's 100% what's going to happen.
26 Pistons -- 20-46 The Pistons finished the season a tire-fire. They won a single game after trading Andre Drummond and had advanced stats on par with historically awful teams. Christian Wood looked awesome but he's a free agent and his future is uncertain. With a clean cap sheet and a new GM in place everything is on the table for the Pistons future.
27 TWolves +1 19-45 Wolves are once again hoping the ping pong balls bounce their way in the lottery. Despite being a mainstay at this event they have never moved up their position in the lottery.
28 Knicks -- 21-45 Stay Melo
29 Cavaliers -- 19-46 After being cut from the bubble, there was a few members of the team that were upset they didn’t get a chance to get additional reps with the team as the season winded down in Orlando. We also have had a few stories come out in regards to us having high hopes for next season. Our young guys took great steps this season, with Sexton putting up good PPG and ultimately looking like he’s learning how to create opportunities when faced with a NBA-level defense. I’m excited to see what Garland and Jr are able to do next season!
30 Warriors -- 15-50 Klay's on Catalina Island doing bicep curls with Rocco, literally. Most interesting development was packaging Wiggins and the pick for Siakam...which would be a great fit and why wouldn't Toronto want Maple Jordan? IT apparently wants to play for GS and come off the bench, we already have Jordan Poole playing no defense and chucking though.

Lotte Kopecky proud of her transfer to CCC-Liv: "The perfect step for me"

Dutch Wielerflits article:
Lotte Kopecky proud of her transfer to CCC-Liv: "The perfect step for me".
Lotte Kopecky is proud of her move to CCC-Liv. Last month, WielerFlits already reported that the Belgian champion was close to joining the Women's WorldTour team. After five years, the 25-year-old rider says goodbye to Lotto Soudal.
"For me, this is the perfect step at an ideal time. I am now 25 years old, I am developing quickly and I feel that there are still many opportunities for growth. My first WorldTour victory, a stage victory in the Giro Rosa, is confirmation that I am on the right track. Transferring to a UCI Women's WorldTour now gives me new opportunities to develop myself further," says Lotte Kopecky in the team's press release.
"This choice for my new team was made pretty quickly. I can count on the support of experienced people who have performed at the very highest level in cycling in the past. In addition, I get the freedom to work towards the Olympics. A schedule will be mapped out, so that I can be important for both the team and my country".
Team owner Eric van den Boom: "Lotte Kopecky is a great reinforcement for our team. She is still young, develops very quickly and can stand her ground in a variety of terrains. Also in this tumultuous, uncomfortable season she has shown her progression with a stage win in the Giro Rosa and the Belgian champion jersey. Lotte Kopecky has everything to become the leading lady who can put Belgian women's cycling on the map even more".

Lieselot Decroix becomes racing coach at Jumbo Visma Women: "Could hardly say no"

Sporza Article:

Lieselot Decroix becomes racing coach at Jumbo Visma Women: "Could hardly say no".

Next year a women's cycling team will be added to the peloton: Jumbo-Visma Women. Lieselot Decroix, co-commentator at Sporza and former cyclist, will be their racing coach. "You can't call it a transfer, because I come from nowhere," says Decroix.
"A great opportunity, I could hardly say no".
When you end up in the brand new women's team of Jumbo-Visma, you can call that a top transfer. "You can't call it a transfer, because I come from nowhere," Lieselot Decroix said yesterday during the broadcast of the Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne for women. "But it was a great opportunity for me to be occupied with professional cycling again. And it's special to be with such a team, where there is a men's team, a speed skating team and a development team. So now there is also a women's team with a lot of knowledge and experience. I could hardly say no."
"I even have ridden in a Dutch team", says Decroix laughing with a Dutch accent. "I rode with Boels-Dolmans for a year and the Dutch mentality massively appeals to me . Straightforward, that's how I am. I had the first talks somewhere in August. I got a call from Esra Tromp, who will become the team's manager. She was the driving force behind the women's story at Jumbo-Visma. It's based on the men's structure and management, and there is also very much suppor tbehind the women's team. Also the sponsors are happy with it, they insisted on it themselves".
"Privilege to work with Marianne Vos"
Decroix wasn't with a team yet, but she did some individual coaching every now and then. How did Jumbo-Visma end up with her? "I know Esra Tromp from the old days, she was also a cyclist. But last year there were also talks with Julie Van de Velde, who I also train individually. Tromp was at Parkhotel Valkenburg at the time and wanted to bring Van de Velde there, but she remained loyal to Lotto-Soudal. Van de Velde did tell Tromp that she was very satisfied with my qualities. That's why she thought of me, I think.
Not only Van de Velde is going to Jumbo-Visma, but also Marianne Vos, around whom the team is being built. "It's a team with a lot of qualities, but with Vos we have one of the best riders of all time. It's a privilege to work with her. The ambitions? To build a team, because the riders we have now are not the biggest names, but they do have a lot of qualities. The intention is to build the team to be the best team in the world in x number of years. Trying to copy the story of the men in women's cycling".

2020 women's transfer thread

We need a women's transfer thread as well! I'm trying to keep it similar to the men's one, so rumours are included, and confirmed transfers are in bold.
I've included the Women's WorldTeams, teams that have announced they want to apply for WorldTeam status next year, and the teams I included in last year's thread so they were easy to copy/paste. I'll update with more teams as they make announcements.
And here is a list of riders out of a contract for next year. It is PCS, who are not the most up to date on the women's side usually. Cycling Fever have a great overview of transfers, rumours and contract extensions.

The Tragedy of Darth Foliforov the Wise

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Foliforov the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story Team LottoNL-Jumbo would tell you. It's a pelotonmemes legend. Darth Foliforov was a ProContinental rider of Gazprom, so powerful and so Russian he could use the Doping to influence the mitochondria to create energy... He had such a knowledge of the Doping that he could even keep Steven Kruijswijk... from winning. Gazprom is a path to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful, the only thing he was afraid of was never winning a single thing ever again, which eventually, of course, he did.

Simon Clarcke looks back at Amstel Gold Race: "Van Der Poel wanted the victory more than anyone else that day" [Long interview]

Wielerflits interview, that it was nice to hear a different point of view telling the story. There isn't any other news anyway, here is goes:
Simon Clarke looks back on Amstel Gold Race: "Van der Poel wanted the victory more than anyone else that day"
In the past week Simon Clarke had hoped to shine in the Ardennes classics as leader of EF Pro Cycling. Especially in his beloved Amstel Gold Race. The last edition of that race is inextricably linked to the victory of Mathieu van der Poel. But what was the story of the surprising number two? We talked to him via Skype for more than an hour. "I'm glad I was part of that never experienced emotional rollercoaster", Clarke says enthusiastically. Relive his race.
The first hours of the Amstel Gold Race 2019
In the winter of 2018 to 2019 the now 33-year-old Clarke was given a task by team boss Jonathan Vaughters. The message was: 'Turn into a one-day driver'. Together with his trainer Michele Bartoli (winner of the Amstel, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour of Flanders and the Tour of Lombardy) he worked hard on that goal. Through a strong spring, he was scheduled to start on Sunday 21 April in excellent condition at Het Vrijthof in Maastricht. "I love the Amstel Gold Race. It has always been a passion of mine to do that race. Liege-Bastogne-Liege is just a little too heavy with my qualities. Especially since Roche-aux-Faucons has been moved. But I just absolutely love the Amstel."
"When I was young, I grew up track cycling in Australia," Clarke continues his declaration of love. "During the track season we rode a lot of criteriums at the time, often twice a week. I learned how to stay in position, how to fight before every corner. Actually, the Amstel Gold Race is a 250 kilometer criterium," he chuckles. "The only difference is you don't ride it in small laps. I really feel at home in that race. It takes so much concentration, but you have to make sure you have enough to perform in the finals. That's not easy. A rider normally really needs a few years to master the course."
In his EF Pro Cycling team the spotlight for the start will be on Alberto Bettiol, who won the Vlaanderens Mooiste two weeks earlier. "Of course he had a super form. We had also done the Brabantse Pijl the week before. He was very strong there. We missed the decisive battle, but Alberto won the sprint with two fingers in his nose. I was also very good. Although I was also strong and motivated, I respected that Bettiol had an incredible form. He was normally the leader".
Earlier Clarke tanked a lot of confidence in Strade Bianche (eighth) and Milan-San Remo (ninth). He tried to take that condition with him to the Netherlands. "In the first hours of the race I always try to finish off. It's only after the second supply that I get going. Until then it is important to stay out of trouble. I have a trick for that. I always force myself to ride in the middle of one lane. Normally you drive in the middle of the road and you're safe. But in the Netherlands you have a lot of traffic islands. That's why I always try to stay in the middle of the left or right lane. Then there's the least chance I'll get into trouble with traffic obstructions".
Those cyclo-crossers don't choose the regular track.
When his imaginary alarm clock went off in the second supply zone, he was at the front of the peloton - in contrast to previous participations. He immediately handled his food bag well, which allowed him to stay at the front. "I'll never forget how that Lotto Soudal guy kept up the pace in the next stage. It's very tight and normally you can hardly move up there at fifteen kilometers. Because of the scorching pace of Lotto Soudal that was almost impossible last year. I kept saying to myself: 'It's good that I'm in this position, because it saves me a lot of energy compared to guys who ride behind me'. Like myself in other years', he laughs. "I knew I'd won a little battle there."
On the Gulperberg the speed was slightly reduced. Suddenly MVDP stowed away. A strange place, considering the fact that a wide track follows after that. "More," says Clark. "We know by now that a lot of those cyclocross guys like to throw themselves and do everything their own way. Chapeau, there's nothing wrong with that! Road cyclists often look at the races quite traditionally. Like: 'Okay, everyone always attacks here and this way'. But those cyclocross riders prove that it doesn't always have to go via the beaten track. At that moment I really thought: 'Alright, maybe he's going to rewrite the script to win the Amstel'. But the direct result of that attack was Deceuninck-Quick-Step's reaction. They worked hard to get Van der Poel back, but then they bet on a full team attack."
"It was clear that they wanted to make Van der Poel pay for his attempt", the Australian continues. "You can't drive up the Gulperberg as fast as he did and wasting unnecessary energy must have been their intention. Quick-Step succeeded, after which Julian Alaphilippe and Jakob Fuglsang drove off with a super impressive move. It turned out well for us, because Michael Woods was with them. We were very happy with that situation, because it kept Bettiol out of the line of fire. I kept making sure that we as a team had the situation under control. At that moment I thought the race was over. I was pretty sure Van der Poel didn't have the team to bring back Alaphilippe and Fuglsang, who soon had a one-minute lead".
On top of the Keutenberg they are told by EF Pro Cycling that Michael Woods had to unload at the front. "Suddenly we were chasing after the facts. Our luck was that there were still four of us in our group. Where we first put the pressure on Corendon-Circus, Alberto and I discussed what to do. With that situation we as a team wouldn't win anyway. So I took up my old role as road captain again. When Michael fell back into our group, I drove straight to him: 'Woods, you're unloaded. But you have to try to get back at those frontrunners now." Clarke must laugh at that statement now. "He and Lawson Craddock then did bear work up to the foot of the Cauberg. Just before entering the final round they had to get off."
Partners in crime: Clarke and Mollema
The excellent work of Woods and Craddock led to the other riders of that group trying to ride away on the Cauberg. But just before the penultimate passage at the finish it threatened to come to a standstill. "Just before the finish everybody straightened up a bit, to catch their breath. Bauke Mollema then attacked. In the race you always have the feeling: 'This is the attack I have to go with'. Bauke is a super strong rider. In the Vuelta of 2018 I duelled with him for stage win and as a rider I know him pretty well. When you can choose someone in the peloton with whom you want to attack in a duo, Mollema will be among the first on that list. I believe he is a very honest rider", says Clarke.
The rider from EF Pro Cycling thinks he looks a bit like his colleague from Trek-Segafredo. "He is super strong", the Aussie adds. "Bauke always co-operates well because he wants to maneuver himself into a winning position first. Only then does he race to win, instead of always hanging in the wheel and waiting for that chance. I think I have the same character. I also prefer to use more energy to create a chance for myself, rather than waiting for others to do the job. When I jumped with him and looked over my shoulder, I saw that no one was following. That was the point when the course became really interesting. The team leader cars didn't get the right information about the race situation. That didn't last until halfway through the last lap."
Clarke's team leaders were late in discovering that he was riding in the attack, as the TV director also found it difficult to see the fragmentation of the pitch. At that time there were less than ten kilometres to go. "Until then, I was still getting instructions through my ear to watch Bettiol. I didn't answer and thought they would soon see that I wasn't with him anymore, but that I was driving for him. Bauke and I had no indication of the time difference either. We knew the difference between the leaders and the group behind us. And we knew the difference between the leaders and the chasers (Michał Kwiatkowski and Matteo Trentin, ed.). The latter two we could see riding. Bauke and I drove as fast as we could and kept calculating what our gap would be. And whether we were getting closer."
"Then it was a duo time trial and it looked like we would ride for the places six and seven", Clarke tells about the situation he had ended up in with Mollema. In addition to the physical effort, the mental aspect of the day turned out not to be easy or easy to follow. "Maximillian Schachmann was still riding between Kwiatkowski-Trentin and the two of us. At that moment I became very enthusiastic: 'Top-10, that's really good for me! The team would be happy with that result. When we were near the Bemelerberg, we suddenly got the information that Van der Poel and five others were on their way. Then I thought: 'They were a bit behind, maybe we can hold them off to the finish'. But with three kilometres to go, they were already storming past us! Suddenly the whole situation was very different than before".
"Van der Poel was on a mission, he didn't see us.
Because the course was opened so early, the chaos was great. "If you had good legs and still had some energy left, you could really drag something out of the fire," Clarke looks back. "That group of five riders was strong and they worked very well together. Van der Poel pulled really hard, but the rest didn't skip a turn. So they were able to make up for a lot of space in the final kilometers and managed to get to Bauke and me. What I could tell from their faces when they joined us? Nothing! We didn't get the chance, because they drove really fast. Van der Poel kept accelerating, like he was on a mission. He didn't even see us when he caught up. He knew there were still riders ahead of us and he didn't care to take it easy. Van der Poel rode to win."
The amalgamation of the two groups caused Clarke to worry about his place among the top ten. "Bauke and I quickly jumped aboard the train that was passing by. We were trying to recover. For us it would turn out to be something like a sprint. For place seven through place twelve. Then I changed my mind again: 'Now I have to get ready for the best sprint I have left'. After I missed the Amstel in 2018 due to fractures in my vertebrae, I hadn't ridden the redrawn final yet. I'll never forget that crash with 2.5 kilometers to go. Van der Poel rode in front of our group and sprinted up that stretch as if the finish was at the top. We really went full speed there. Insane."
Where the chasers came closer, after several skirmishes in the head of the course, the tactical battle began there. "I still thought there was no possibility that the two in front were riding as fast as we were, on that stretch. We didn't know anything, but afterwards it turned out they were paddling there. We went really fast on the other hand. I decided to focus on Van der Poel. The days before I had looked back at his sprint in the Brabantse Pijl a couple of times. He was the lead out for Alaphilippe and Michael Matthews. And they didn't even come close, even though they're the two fastest guys in this type of race. Van der Poel shipped them off as if it were a local criterium, a training lap. That was really unbelievable. He was the man to beat."
Just after the summit of the Bemelerberg - the last slope of that day - the 33 year old Australian nestles himself in the wheel of the top favourite. "It was crystal clear to me: Van der Poel was too committed to try to win that race. All the attacks that would follow from then to the finish would be countered by him. I decided not to get out of his wheel. In the descent to the final kilometre Romain Bardet tried to get away just before we caught Schachmann. I had just raced with him in the Tour of the Basque Country, where he won three stages. But Schachmann wasted a lot of energy in the final lap by trying to cross over to the head of the race on his own. His speed for the final sprint had to be a little off, I told myself".
Unseen plot twist
Just before entering the last corner, Clarke suddenly starts to count heads in his group. And then he comes across two surprises. "I thought: 'Van der Poel and co joined me and Mollema, we wiped out Bardet's attack, we took back Schachmann... That means there are three more guys riding in front of us'. When we get around the corner that trio suddenly drives a few meters in front of us! I couldn't believe it! "And I was like: wow! Everything else messed up in my head. I started concentrating even better on Van der Poel's wheel. I knew how he would sprint, because of what he did in the Brabant Arrow. I was really happy that I had seen that replay a number of times. That's why I knew you had no other choice by almost stuck to his rear tyre'.
"With the gear he's got in his legs, you have to sit there," Clarke says. "I had quite a bit of self-confidence, too. I hadn't done a sprint to the hole all day, even though I kicked away five or six hundred watts with Bauke in the final. But I hadn't done the full maximum acceleration yet. So I knew I could still ride a good sprint. I also know that on my best days I come close to beating someone like Michael Matthews. But three days before that Van der Poel had beaten him so easily in the Brabantse Pijl... Only now Van der Poel had already played out my lead for about eight hundred metres. I thought I had a chance, now or never. He does that incredible lead out, and then he just got faster and faster and faster!"
Whatever Clarke tries, he's not from Van der Poel's wheel - picture: Cor Vos Clarke must confess: none of his group could do the same in the final kilometre as what Van der Poel did. "He was obviously the strongest. He determined the course in the last sixty kilometres, in various situations. What Van der Poel did that day was unbelievable. I've never seen anyone take control of a race like that before. With eight hundred metres to go, after 250 kilometres of racing. There are ten guys in his wheel and they don't even get close! Really unseen. It was an extraordinary experience to be part of that. The moment I crossed the finish line, I immediately thought: 'Wow, people are going to talk about this finish for years to come'. I can only imagine what it must have been like when you were sitting on the edge of your seat in front of the television, not knowing how it would end. Even though we didn't know that at the time."
An emotional roller coaster, sums up Clarke. "But with a fairy-tale ending. Mathieu van der Poel proved that day that he wanted that victory more than anyone else. As much as I love racing and as much as I want to win - just like everyone else - he really did deserve that victory. When the five of them came back, he was the guest who arranged that. The gear he put on that crash piece after the Bemelerberg... If he doesn't, the three of them stay out of the way. That we could still sprint for victory, was thanks to Van der Poel. Despite the fact that I had lost, it still felt like a victory to me. Without him, Bauke and I would never have taken back Alaphilippe and Fuglsang. Seen from my position, I only won places. Without Van der Poel's beastwork I would never have finished second in the Amstel Gold Race".
